How to know one mixture from another
Colloid
A mixture with intermediate sized particles that will scatter light and don’t settle out.
Emulsion
A mixture where one liquid is dispersed in the other.
Solution
A mixture with small dissolved evenly dispersed particles.
Suspension
A mixture with larger undissolved particles that settle out of the mixture.
Solvent
Dissolves a solute.
Solute
A particle that get dissolved by the solvent.
Visible identification
Look at the mixture and see if you can see any particles immediately. Over a period of time see if any particles become visible. Watch the physical change of ingredients what dissolves, what is dissolves, and how it appears.
Physical identification
Touch the mixture (when safe) and look for any particles or gritty feel that may be present on your fingers.
